Welcome Back. I hope you all had a great Spring Break!!

Open House is next Wednesday, April 22nd.  Come and see all of the great work your student has been doing lately.  Please have your child bring in a one inch Binder by this Friday so we can put all of their work inside.

Baby Pictures - We are having a guessing competition for the students' baby pictures.  Please bring a baby picture by Tuesday, April 21st, so we can display it for the competition at Open House on Wed. April 22nd.  Thank You!!

Walk Through the Revolutionary War - the Students received parts to memorize for this event which will be on Tuesday, May 5th from 12:00 to 2:30.  Students are to dress up related to their part or to Colonial Times.  Parents are welcome to come and watch.  It is a great learning experience for the students.

We are starting SBAC testing.  The dates that our class will be testing include the following.  Please try and make sure your child does not miss those days of school. (Please note that some of these were changed because of scheduling conflicts and these are the final correct dates)

                  2)  Wednesday, April 22
             3) Friday, April 24
            4) Thursday, April 30
             5) Friday, May 1st

Career Day

Career day was great today.  Thank you to the amazing parents for coming and talking all about your professions.

A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Phan, Mr. Owens, Mr. Petervary, Mr. Macias, Mrs. Sueki, and Mr. Vu.  We really enjoyed hearing all about your professions!!!!

The students also did a great job  presenting their Careers.  Look on the Career Tab, below the instructions, for pictures from today.

Thank you to all of the amazing parents who have donated to the Donor's Choose project.  We have almost gotten enough to fund the project!  It will be so exciting to get 5 more Chrome books for our class!  (The link is below if you still want to donate.  Thank You!!)

The students dissected a Pig's Heart today and it was such a great experience!!  They learned all about the heart and the chambers and got to see how similar it is to a Human heart.  Ask your child all about it.  Check out the pictures under the dissection tab.

Tomorrow is the 5th grade Panoramic Picture.  The students should wear red, white, or blue for the picture.

This week we have some fun events.  On Wednesday, April 1st, the Discovery Science Center instructors are coming out and dissecting a pig's heart with the class.    This goes along with our Science unit on the Human Body which we will be starting after Spring Break.
On Wednesday, the Career Day posters are due.  The students will present on Friday, April 3rd for Career Day.  They should come dressed in something that relates to their Career choice and be ready to give a 1 minute speech about the highlights of their Career.
We have some wonderful parents presenting first about their professions.  Thank you very much to Mrs. Sueki, Mrs. Phan, Mr. Owens, Mr. Macias, and Mr. Vu for sharing all about your professions!

I just recently created a Donor’s Choose project called Financial Literacy via Travel Teams, Stock Market, and More.  Since we will not have access to the school computer lab and the school Chrome book cart for the next 6 to 8 weeks, because of testing, I am trying to get more Chrome books for just our class.  If parents donate to this Donor’s Choose project, each dollar will be matched for the next 7 days, until April 5th.  For example, if  you donated 5 dollars, it would actually be 10 dollars.  Any amount, even 1 dollar, would be so helpful.  We are going to be doing 3 class projects which will help the students develop their Financial literacy skills.  These projects include following the Stock Market, Creating their own Country, and Travel Teams where they plan a trip across the United States while budgeting their pretend money for hotels, gas, car rentals, food, tourist attractions, and much more.
We need access to technology for these great projects and having 5 more Chrome books in the class, from Donor’s Choose, would allow the students to do more research and financial preparation for these projects.
If you are willing to donate, that would be great if you could do it in the next 7days, until April 5th, so your money donation is matched.  Please use the promo codeSPARK  - during checkout to double your donations. Thank you so much!  Here is the link to go to the Donor’s Choose site.

Spring Break is next week, from April 6th through 10th.  School will resume on April 13th.   Have a wonderful week with your family and friends!!

Thank you for attending conferences.  I enjoyed our conversations about your wonderful children.  As we spoke there were many questions regarding the transition to Mesa View.  Here is what I learned:
  • There is an Orientation Day in August (Do not worry you will get notification during the summer)
  • Childcare is not available on campus
  • There are bus routes available, just as there are for elementary schools. The routes are on the district website. (Click on routes or district website to take you to those links)
  • You do not have to do anything else to prepare, just wait for information to arrive in the mail in August
  • Open House for incoming GATE students is on April 16

We are  trying to raise money for a class set of booksRunning Out of TIme, so Dr. Webb has posted  a new novel study on Donors Choose. For one more day, DonorsChoose will match ANY donation made to our classes.  If you have the time and the funds, we would really appreciate a donation. Even $1 will help (because really it will be $2 when DonorsChoose matches it). Please do not feel obligated to donate.

IMPORTANT: If you decide to donate within the next five days, enter the code SPARK DonorsChoose will only match dollar for dollar if the code SPARK is entered.

Thank you for reading, and thank you so much for donating if you are able to do so!
Even the smallest bit helps!  We only have $256 to go!
Thank you!
