Career Day Update

February 26, 2015

The fifth grade GATE classes will be holding their annual career Day on Friday, April 3rd.  The kids will be conducting an independent research study on a career that holds some interest.  We know that all Careers are important but we would like the Career choice to include at least 2 years of college. Each student will then present their findings on a poster board and share at a “business meeting" in the MP Room. We want this to be a project that sparks their interests as well as the possibilities of a wonderful future.

We would love to integrate the children’s presentations with some “real-life,” experienced professionals.  If any of you are interested in coming in to share a little bit about your line of work with the kids, we would love to have you!  Please let me know.  This should be a fun event for your children, who already possess such high aspirations for their futures! 

If you are interested in coming in to share with our group of scholars, we would love if you could prepare a short 3 to 5 minute presentation .  Please include the training/education required for your occupation, a description of a typical work day, what you enjoy about your career, and anything else you would like to share.  Feel free to bring in any relevant visual aids to add to your talk. The presentations will be on Friday, April 3rd 12th  from 8:30 to 10:00.  Adults will present first then the students will share their careers. We are hoping that many of you are enthusiastic to come in and share.  It is our goal to fit in as many guest speakers as possible!

Science Test / Colonial Fair Reminder

  Don't forget to study for the Science Test which is tomorrow.


The Colonial Fair is Wednesday, February 25th, in the MPR.  Please come anytime between 8:30 - 9:50 to go back in time and witness your child's hard work.  

Welcome Back

Welcome Back from Astrocamp  and your holiday weekend. It was great to hear all of the wonderful experiences that the students had at camp.  

Next Wednesday, February 25th, is the Colonial Fair.  Come and see the great Colonial Store fronts and research that each group has done for this day.  The Colonial Fair is in the MPR from 8:30 to 9:45.  See you then.

Astrocamp Week :)

Astrocamp is this week from Wednesday, February 11th to February 13th.   Make sure you have all of your items labeled, especially your 2 bags.  Don't forget to bring a labeled sack lunch for Wednesday.  We still need  each student to bring a 2 liter bottle for the bottle launching activity at Astrocamp.

 Happy February - 

Tomorrow, February 3rd, we are going on a Field trip to the Orange County Performing Arts Center.  Please make sure your child brings a sack lunch, with their name on it,  for the field trip.  It would be nice if they dressed in something other than jeans and a t-shirt too.  


Astrocamp - is next week  so make sure you are starting to pack and get items together for the trip.  The students did get a packing list last week and it is also on the Blog under the Astrocamp tab.  Please feel free to email me with any questions about Astrocamp.


Colonial Fair -  The students are doing such an amazing job making their Colonial Store Fronts and doing research about their Colonial job.  Thank you for your help with donating some of the supplies for this culmination.   Make sure you mark your calendars for FEBRUARY 25th to come and see the Colonial Fair in the MPR.  

On Tuesday, February 10th, the students can bring Valentine's card in for each other.  If they choose to participate, they need to bring in Valentine's cards for every student in the room. We are NOT having a Valentine's party since it is the only day that the students are at school that week but they will have fun exchanging their cards for the last 20 minutes on the 10th.  We are celebrating this early since the students will be gone at Astrocamp from February 11th through 13th.  

We have just finished the Social Studies Chapter on the Middle Colonies.  The students received a Study Guide which is due this Friday and the test will be next Tuesday, February 10th.  

There is no school on Monday, February 9th,  in honor of President's day.
