ASTROCAMP  - The fifth grade class will be meeting during school this week to go over the Astrocamp Rules and Expectations.  In Take Home Thursday, the students will receive a packing list.  Please look over this list carefully and watch out for the weather forecast as we get closer to  Astrocamp.  It is so exciting that it is only a few weeks away!! See the Astrocamp Tab above for the list that is being sent home.   

Each Student needs to bring an empty 2 Liter bottle for the Bottle rocket launch.  Please bring those in the next couple of weeks.

FieldTrip = Tuesday, February 3rd. We are going to the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center Concert for 5th graders. Each student needs to bring a SACK Lunch for this event.  Make sure each it is in a disposable bag.  The students are encouraged to wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt.

On Monday, January 26th, the students do NOT have school.  Have a great 3 day weekend.  

COLONIAL FAIR - 

   We have started working on the Colonial Fair.  The students have chosen groups and they have been doing research on the the Chrome Books collaboratively for their research poster.  They are now going to build Store Fronts that represents their  Colonial trade.   They have been discussing and drawing out plans of how  they are going to construct their Colonial store front.  
 We are going to give them 2 to 3 hours a week to work on this project in class for the next 6-7 weeks.  
   We are asking parents to help with getting the supplies for this project. In the past, students have made their Store Fronts out of big pieces of cardboard or Tri-folds put together.  Students have also used PVC pipes and many have also done their store fronts using wood. 
     They are allowed to bring in building supplies like nails and hammers.  If anything needs to be cut, using a saw  or anything sharp, that needs to be done at home with a parent.  The students are also encouraged to paint their Store front.  They are allowed to bring spray paint and regular paint to do this in class.
   Students have asked if they can pass out items on the Colonial Fair day and they can as long as it relates to their trade.  For example, butchers can pass out beef jerky or bakers can pass out bread.  Alchemists can pass out small cups of juice and pretend it is medicine or Silversmiths can make Tin Foil animals and pass those out.  They do not have to pass something out, but if they want to it can not have any peanut items. 
Thank you for your help with getting the supplies for this fun project.  
 The final Culmination will be on February 25th and there will be 20 different Colonial Store Fronts to check out.  This is a great culmination to learn more about the Colonial Times.

Astrocamp - Medical Forms are due this week. Please sign all parts of the light yellow medical paper.  If your child is bringing something that is not listed on the light yellow form then the dark yellow form needs to have a doctor's signature and stamp.

We are also learning all about the 13 Colonies.  Our next IN- Class Project that the students will work on is creating a Colonial Fair.  Please Keep February 25th free so you can come and visit. Ask your kids all about their Colonial Fair group and the Store Front they are going to build.  We are asking that parents help to donate the items needed for their group and they will construct/build/paint their Colonial Store Front in class as well as create a research poster on the Colonial Job in Class.
